Consultation Terms and Conditions
Booking and payment
On booking your consultation you are required to complete an online form with your personal details and make full payment in advance via Paypal.
The information provided on this form is stored securely and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. Your contact details will only be used in conjunction with your consultation and will never be passed to third parties for any reason. You will be given a choice as to whether you wish to sign up to our email newsletter.
Cancellation & rescheduling
The consultation fee is non-refundable. In extreme circumstances discretion may used for a partial or full refund.
If you need to reschedule your consultation up to 48 hours before the time of the consultation then we can do this at no extra cost, subject to the availability of the consultant. Within 48 hours of the consultation time, rescheduling at no extra cost due to unforeseen and extenuating circumstances may be possible at the discretion of the consultant. Otherwise, you will need to book another Consultation at full price.
If the consultant cancels a consultation at any time and for any reason, attempts will be made to reschedule it at a time that suits you. If this is not suitable to you, a full refund will be provided.
All consultations will be held in your home, unless you request an alternative location. If you request an alternative location, we will need to find a suitable neutral venue and any cost of this will be borne entirely by you. Consultants will only use venues that they consider to have good access and that observe appropriate Health and Safety.
For consultations in your home, please ensure that there is sufficient space for the consultation to take place. Please also note that any pets should be kept away from the room in which the consultation is taking place.
Babies and children are welcome to be present and involved during consultations, though your children remains your responsibility at all times during the consultation.
In terms of practicing, there will be weighted demonstration dolls at the consultation for you to use to practice using slings and new carries. If you have your child with you, you will want to try a carry or sling with your child. If this is the case you may only do so after you feel confident in doing the same skill with a demonstration doll, and the first time it will be helpful to have the consultant observing the practice.
The consultation includes within it an entire section on sling safety both in general and then in relation to each carry or sling demonstrated within the consultation. After the consultation, you will be given written documentation regarding safety which you should read in full before trying anything you have learned during the consultation.
During the consultation, clients remain responsible for themselves and their children’s safety at all times. Normal safety precautions will always be taken by the consultant but the consultant cannot be held responsible for your child’s safety. Sling safety protocols (such as TICKS) will be explained and adhered to at all times.
The majority of the practical element of the consultation will be done using demonstration dolls. If your child is with you, we will try this with your child after you feel confident in doing the same skill with a demonstration doll, and when the consultant is observing the practice. The consultant will not touch your baby/child unless absolutely necessary for safety reasons.
The consultant will not advise on the use of bag carriers, other than to explain the dangers of using them. More details can be found on http://www.slingguide.co.uk.
The cost of sling hire is in addition to the cost of a consultation and is charged at £7.50 per sling (for up to a month). The duration of hire must fit around sling meets and will be negotiable at the time of hire. There are separate Terms and Conditions for Sling Hire that must be observed in full before hiring.
The whole range of slings in the library will not be available to you at consultations so it is important to give the consultant as much information as possible on the booking form regarding what types of slings you would like to try.
